A State Officer Reflects on the Year Gone By

2012-2013 | State Officer No Comments

I had been looking forward to being state president of Georgia FBLA for as long as I can remember; it has been a goal of mine since I became a member in 2006 in middle school and saw the state officers on stage in Perry. Achieving that goal last March helped me prove to myself that I could do anything I set my mind to. However, I didn’t plan for the bumpy ride of being a state officer; I thought simply getting elected was enough.

The summer proved trying for me as a state officer. I made my first major mistake at National Leadership Conference and witnessed the consequences. Monty proved he was serious about following through with threats at that conference. I became emotional due to the stress and the fact that my mistake hurt the entire team. After that conference, I tried my hardest to make sure my actions never caused fallout on the rest of the team again. Read More

Farewell from a State Officer

2012-2013 | State Officer No Comments

More than a year ago, I decided that I wanted to run for FBLA State Office. I admired all the roles state officers played at our conferences, and from a distance, what they did, didn’t appear to be very difficult. Boy was I wrong; if someone had told me it was going to be easy, they would have been lying. A little over a year ago, I stood on the state stage under the bright lights and was named the Georgia FBLA Projects Vice President. This journey has been hard, time consuming, wonderful, memorable, and I can honestly say nothing else in my life can compare to the experience I have been granted. Read More

A State Officer’s Recap of the Year

2012-2013 | State Officer No Comments

It has been an honor serving as a 2012-2013 Georgia FBLA state officer. This year, like any, has come with its ups and downs but has given me many new experiences, skills, and opportunities I would not have had if I wasn’t given this opportunity.

From the beginning, our team has had a bond. National Leadership Conference was one of the best experiences of my life even though it was lengthy. From meeting and greeting all day to having our late night dinner adventures, which was stressful at times, this has truly been a great opportunity. Read More

FBLA in a Year–A State Officer Viewpoint

2012-2013 | State Officer No Comments

This year has been an amazing expedition for me. When I first decided to run for state office, it was nothing like what I expected. Being a state officer is a career. It’s a lot of hard work and a lot of tears. However, you meet amazing people that you form lasting connections with, and that is enough to last you a life time. The state officer team becomes a family of leaders who “strive to be uncomfortable” in our organization, FBLA. We learn so much about and from each other. The tools we learn to utilize carry us through a life time. Read More

FOLLOWING THE RULES

2012-2013 | Chapter events | Competition No Comments

When I was a little girl, I did not understand why I had to follow so many rules. Do not eat in the living room, keep your room clean, do your homework, lights out by 8. I can still hear my mom’s voice telling me all of these things, and as time passed by, the list only got longer. We are all familiar with the rules of school, our homes, and life in general. I have often wondered to myself why we need rules at all. Then I think of the mass chaos there would be if no rules existed. In Parliamentary Procedure, there are numerous rules to ensure meetings run smoothly; I wondered where all these rules came from. I read Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised and it informed me all about its different laws. Who knew there were so many kinds? Read More

Delivering Candy Grams and cards to the Nursing Home

Any day can be a day designated for happiness, fellowship, and love. An FBLA chapter could make this day very special for people who reside in these nursing homes and who long for more happiness, fellowship, and love. This simple act of kindness could go a long way for the citizens of nursing homes. Read More
